President
Hello, my name is Rachel Montoya, and I am proud to call Magdalena, New Mexico, my home. I was born and raised here, and my roots run deep in this special community.
As the fourth of six children, I was raised in a family that taught me to love others, serve our neighbors, and treat everyone with kindness and respect. My family has long been connected to Magdalena Schools, serving in a variety of roles over the years from janitor and librarian to bus driver and teacher. Their example instilled in me a deep belief that every role matters and that service is at the heart of a strong community.
My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of my life. It guides how I treat others and how I strive to lead with integrity, humility, and compassion. I believe we are called to love our neighbors, lift one another up, and leave every place better than we found it.
I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Media Arts from New Mexico Highlands University and currently work for TEAMTRI. Through this work, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for teamwork, leadership, and investing in young people. I especially enjoy seeing students grow in confidence, discover their potential, and become leaders in their schools and communities.
Although I don’t have children of my own, I am blessed to be the aunt of twelve nieces and nephews. Being part of their lives has deepened my passion for ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, succeed, and thrive. I believe every child deserves adults who believe in them, encourage them, and advocate for their future.
In 2024, I had the honor of serving on the Magdalena School Board, following in my dad’s footsteps. I chose to serve because I care deeply about our students, educators, families, and the community that has given me so much. I am committed to making decisions that support student success and reflect the best interests of our children.
Magdalena has shaped the person I am today, and I am grateful for every opportunity to give back to the community that has invested so much in me. It is an honor to serve alongside the people who make this town so special, and I look forward to helping build an even brighter future for the next generation.
